Blog twenty four - Copy right laws

In a previous blog I have spoken about the legal and ethical side of photo manipulation. In this blog I am going to talk about the copy right side of photo manipulation and just generally taking other peoples photos and using them for your own purposes.
If you look at the copy right laws you will see that there are a lot of things which are covered by this law. These are;
Literary
song lyrics, manuscripts, manuals, computer programs, commercial documents, leaflets, newsletters & articles etc.

Dramatic
plays, dance, etc.

Musical
recordings and score.

Artistic
photography, painting, sculptures, architecture, technical drawings/diagrams, maps, logos.
Typographical arrangement of published editions
magazines, periodicals, etc.

Sound recording
may be recordings of other copyright works, e.g. musical and literary.

Film
video footage, films, broadcasts and cable programmes.
As you can see the fourth one down says Artistic which will cover anything from photos to maps.

Films and also sound recordings are covered also. So this covers everything that I am using to complete my work.
If you are going to create something for example a song then you need everything to be completely original to say that it is yours if you do not then the rights of that particular bit of work will stay with the original author.
It is important that you keep to the laws as if you do not then you could and most likely will end up in a large amount of trouble.
